You do not need to be an experienced public speaker to participate in Speak Out. You just need your own perspective and the willingness to try. Speak Out is open to New Hampshire students ages 13–19 who are not yet in college.
Each year, students across New Hampshire speak on one statewide topic. This year’s topic asks you to think about service, community, and the role young people can play in creating harmony.
Your speech can be personal, practical, creative, serious, hopeful, or challenging. What matters most is that it reflects your own thinking.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you reach out.
1. Express Interest
Let a teacher, parent, local Lions Club, or the NH Lions Speak Out committee know you are interested.
2. Get Connected
We can help connect you with a local Lions Club contest or contest opportunity in your area.
3. Prepare Your Speech
You will prepare one speech on the statewide topic. You can refine it as you practice.
4. Present Locally
Students present first at a local contest. Local winners may advance to the statewide contest at the Mid-Winter Convention in January.
Not sure where to start?
That’s okay. You do not need to know exactly what you want to say yet. If you’re interested, we can help connect you with the right next step.
Practice speaking in a supportive setting and see that confidence grows with preparation.
Build communication, writing, organization, and presentation skills you can use long after the contest.
Bring your own experiences and perspective to a topic that matters.
Use your voice to encourage others to think differently, act kindly, or serve their community.
